Henry O'Sullivan, 1689

March 12, 1689

Dear Diary,

James II. has been raising an army in France and today landed on the Irish coast. Many friends of mine are probably going to support the English king, in hopes of gaining religious freedom under him, at the very least. His arrival has reawakened hope in all of the dispossessed.

Dear Diary,

King William  has ascended the throne of Ireland, on my birthday even. What bitter irony, considering my parents were protestants and I am now forced into Catholicism. And that is only the beginning of my problems at hand. A week ago, the siege of Londonderry started, as King William hurried to Ireland with a huge army, prepared to face James.

Dear Diary,

The war is over at last. William overcame James and ensured protestant supremacy in Ireland once again. Still, he is offering very generous terms to the remaining catholics, which I hope will be upheld by future generations. It seems that Mary and I can finally live in peace, but i guess only future can tell.
