September 28th
1912, Ulster, Northern Ireland
Dear diary,
We have
been introduced to ‘Home Rule’ and all of us Unionists in Ulster are against
it. We clearly want to stay under British rule.
Thank God we have Edward Carson as our true leader, because he is all
about sustaining the union between Britain and all Ireland. So today is the
day all of us volunteers signed the ‘Ulster Solemn League and Covenant’ in
order to defend Ulster from Home Rule. The Orange Order together with us
unionists fear that Home Rule might mean a parliament in Dublin dominated by
the catholic church.
